Our kitchen garden project.

As part of our home schooling program we have decided to start a kitchen garden.
We thought this would be a wonderful way for us to get hands on experience while we learn new skills.
Planning and constructing the garden will give us an opportunity to explore many different ways of learning.
We have delegated roles for each member of the family for this specific project, taking into account each individual's strengths and areas which may need some improvement.
  • Foreman: Caleb
  • Treasurer: Rhyannon
  • Engineers: Patrick & Hugo
  • Resources: Freya & Ffyona
We hope that this will give us a chance to work on our interpersonal and intrapersonal skills as well as build confidence, self esteem and family pride.
On our first day we have already used lots of skills: measuring, garden design, budgeting, problem solving, communication, decision making and estimating.
We have worked out area, perimeter, calculated costs and used scale drawings.
As a family we decided the name of our kitchen garden and we all got our hands dirty, weeding, planting, watering and collecting horse poo.
Part of our project is to keep an online account of our efforts. Each family member (yes all 6 of us) will contribute in some way whether it be writing, images or something else.
Please feel free to follow our journey as we discover the joys and frustrations, opportunities and obstacles of planning, planting & maintaining a kitchen garden in the bush.
